‘Unannounced visits to public agencies continue’

AMMAN –– The Ministry of Public Sector Development’s teams are continuing their unannounced visits to government departments across the country to evaluate the level of services provided to Jordanians, the ministry said Tuesday.

The teams have recently visited state-owned Civil Service Consumer Corporation outlets in the northern governorates of Ajloun and Jerash to check on the availability of goods and prices during Ramadan.

The visits, the ministry said, also aimed at monitoring the way services are provided and the way management and employees deal with customers.

The teams included employees specialised in the field of developing government services.

As they toured the consumer outlets, officials found that goods, particularly basic commodities, were available in “large quantities” and that prices were also suitable as described by shoppers, said a ministry report made available to The Jordan Times.

Shoppers also said the prices at consumer corporation outlets were cheaper than commercial shops, particularly prices of sugar and rice, the ministry said.

Ministry experts also made an unannounced visit to a medical centre in Jerash to check on the quality of services and the way patients are treated.

The report said the medical centre’s building, run by the Health Ministry, was not designed in a manner friendly to people with disabilities and that the inspectors found only one wheelchair used for helping patients in the emergency unit. The wheelchair was in bad condition.

The report said the centre’s cadres and management treat patients in a professional manner, but noted that there were no instructions available for the public on the steps required to receive services.

The ministry officials said in their report that a complaint box was available at the health facility but no forms were available for the public.
