AMMAN — Public Security Department (PSD) personnel on Thursday detained a woman who filed a false report about a bomb at a shopping centre in the capital, an official said.
PSD Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said the woman turned herself in, after filing a false complaint about another customer to officials in a phone call from the mall, located in a busy area of Amman.
“The woman filed the complaint against the other customer due to personal issues,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
He said she would be questioned about the reasons for causing the commotion, which affected many residents and shoppers.
But media reports and social media posts about the woman’s actions were having a negative impact on her personal life, and affecting her friends and relatives, he added.
“It is an issue being dealt with by the police and she did her part by turning herself in,” Sartawi said.
“Now her case will be referred to the prosecutor,” he added, urging people not to spread rumours about the incident.
