AMMAN — A number of residents of Zarqa governorate have complained about children and young people lighting fireworks after Iftar during the fasting month of Ramadan, “scaring passersby” and sometimes causing “family disputes”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported Sunday.
During a security committee meeting at the governorate’s headquarters, Zarqa Governor Mohammad Smeiran said that fireworks are confiscated when found in shops so that children cannot obtain them.
Smeiran said that security bodies will “deal firmly” with those who light fireworks and throw them at passersby or vehicles in the streets, or within mosques and buildings. He added that citizens are encouraged to report any incident, and that anyone found with fireworks will be arrested and punished in accordance with the law.
