Ayla Red Sea Half Marathon set for December 9

AMMAN — The 12th edition of the Ayla Red Sea Half Marathon will be held on December 9 with the participation of thousand of local, regional and foreign runners.

“This year, a few logistical changes were made to the routes of the races, whereby a larger portion of the 21km race will be inside the Ayla Oasis project allowing participants to marvel on the finished sections of the new addition to Aqaba’s touristic offerings,” Lina Kurd, the general manager of Run Jordan, said.

“A special wheelchair category and a Down syndrome category are added to the children’s race to encourage special needs children to participate in running events,” she added. Kurd stated that Run Jordan has signed cooperation agreement with Al-Yasmeen Society for the Down syndrome, whereby the society receive 20 per cent of the revenue as support from Run Jordan.

“We are also supporting the Disabled Child Care Society from Irbid to enroll 34 of their children in the Ayla Red Sea Half Marathon children’s race,” she said. Ayla Red Sea Half Marathon consists of three categories: 21km, 10km Fun Run and 4.2km Children’s Race. The starting point for the 21km race will be the InterContinental Hotel and end at Revolution Square (Thawra Plaza).

The 10km event will start from north gate of Ayla towards Revolution Square and the 4.2km will start from Ayla as well through Al Farouk Street towards Revolution Square. Registration is open online at www.runjordan.com and at Run Jordan offices in Shmeisani.
