DEAD SEA — Jad Nabas on Friday was crowned champion of the first round of the Speed Test Championship held at the service area at the Dead Sea for the first time.
Nabas clocked 1m14:78s, followed by Husam Salem (1m16:34s) and Motaz Al Ali (1m16:50s).
Nabas was able to rule the first round after overcoming 56 drivers, headed by last year’s champion Rami Kaghdo and Salem, to clock 1m16:61s.
Out of 57, a total of 26 drivers retired for taking the wrong track.
The second round witnessed Nabas reign again with 1m16:11s followed by Salem while Kaghdo settled for fourth.
“It was a very challenging first round with a lot of effort from everyone. Having the track at the Dead Sea was a good idea for fans and drivers to change the view and try something new,” Nabas said.
Deputising for HRH Prince Feisal, chairman of the Executive Motor Sports Council, Amer Basheer presented trophies to winners and highlighted the role played by all volunteers in making the Speed Test an exciting and safe auto event.
“It was an excellent event to start the season with and hopefully I will be able to do better in the next event,” Salem said.
The 2013 season will consist of six rounds with the second round being held in Aqaba on March 29.
