Jumaa ready to defend National Rally Championship title

AMMAN — The first round of the National Rally Championship for the 2017 season kicks off on Friday with the participation of eight drivers from Jordan and one from Kuwait.

The event organised by Jordan Motorsport is the first of five rallies to be held this season.

The first event is considered a preparatory round for Jordan Rally, the second round of the Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) which will be held May 4-6.

Winner of the 2015 and 2016 rally championships Imad Jumaa told The Jordan Times that the first round will be a test for all drivers who will take part in the Jordan Rally.

“We are really excited to start this season with full power in preparation for the Jordan Rally. My brother and I will be driving a modified Mitsubishi Evo 10 for the first round and we hope to have a smooth ride,” he said.

Veteran driver Marouf Abu Samra and co-driver Malek Hariri will join the rally after a long absence.

“Having a strong challenger is always a good way to heat up the round and we are ready for any challenge which will help us focus more for our next event the Jordan Rally,” he added.

Veteran Salameh Qamaz will be joined by his son Faisal in the co-driver’s seat during the first round.

Group N hopeful Ihab Shurafa will be focusing on this difficult group in a new modified Mitsubishi Evo 9 with co-driver Yousef Jumaa.

Ahmad Shaban and co-driver Shadi Shaban in their Mitsubishi Evo 6, Ziad Meqdad and son Osama in their Mitsubishi Evo 7 and Asem Aref and co-driver Musa Jahrian in their Renault Clio will also take part.

Kuwait will be represented by Issam Najadi and co-driver Hazem Atiyat in their Mitsubishi Evo 10.

The first stages of the first round forms the first section of the Jordan Rally which includes Panorama, the longest Special Stage with 16.85km which will give an advantage to all those who are taking part in the first round.

 

The rally will consist of six stages with a total of 295.07km: Panorama (1 and 2), Seyagha (1 and 2), Rama (1 and 2).
