AMMAN — Nine drivers battle it out for the title at one of the toughest rounds of the 5th National Rally Championship on Friday.

A heated and aggressive confrontation is expected in this final round between Ala Rasheed, who tops the standings with 82.5 points, and second-placed Mazen Tantash, with 75 points.

Both drivers will try to dominate the rally and depend on their experience for a precious win that could change the standings and secure the title.

Husam Salem will be a force to reckon with during the rally’s eight special stages, after he finished in 8th place in the Jordan Rally last month.

“The final round will definitely be one of the best rounds ever as we are all eager for a solid win. The stages are tough and very competitive but I believe I have a good chance to be in an advanced position,” Salem, who is teaming up with Nancy Majali, told The Jordan Times.

“My participation in last month’s Jordan Rally taught me so much about rallying which is different from the Speed Test or Rumman Hill Climb competitions. At the end we need to have a safe and enjoyable rally,” he added.

Ihab Bate, rally director, said the final round will be very challenging.

“Drivers will have to cover 148.52km of gravel roads in which 52.62km are special stages. Fans will have a chance to meet drivers in the service park situated in Tel Rumman while most of the action will be around Wasfi Tell Forest,” he said.

And regarding safety concerns, “all have been secured to have a very safe rally for both drivers and fans”, he added.

Ala Khalifeh, Zaid Dahshan, Ala Hmoud, Salameh Qamaz, Faisal Haqi and Fares Tell will also compete in the rally which is organised by Jordan Motorsport.
