AMMAN — Planning and International Cooperation Minister Ibrahim Saif and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation Director General Martin Dahinden on Monday discussed economic and development cooperation between the two countries, and ways to expand it in different fields. Saif highlighted current economic challenges, and the financial and humanitarian impact of regional conditions on the Kingdom. Due to hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees, the country has had to grapple with new economic and social burdens, and increasing pressures on water sources, infrastructure services, education and health facilities, Saif said. Commending Jordan’s role in receiving refugees, Dahinden expressed his country’s readiness to continue with its support of the Kingdom and the region, through the agency, especially in areas pertaining to Syrian refugees. So far, the agency has extended around $13 million in humanitarian assistance for Syrian refugees.
