Resolving inter-Arab differences

Inter-Arab differences are, alas, on the rise.

The Arab League is supposed to be playing a key role in mediating and attempting to resolve these differences, but it is not.

At the same time, we do not see any serious initiatives by key players in the Arab world to fill the vacuum created as a result of the apparent incompetence or impotence of the Arab League, and the situation is fast deteriorating.

There are several conflicts among Arab  countries — some military and bloody, and some political — which are tearing the Arab world apart.

And there are differences and conflicts within individual Arab countries, which are either literally fragmenting these countries or crippling overall understanding and performance.

Since the so-called Arab Spring, the general Arab situation has been a mess, and things seem to be going from bad to worse.

In the past, the Arab League used to play an active, and sometimes, successful role in mediating among Arab countries in times, of conflict and crisis. 

Simultaneously, several Arab countries used to intervene to either prevent or resolve misunderstanding and disputes.

At present, no one seems to care, and the quarreling parties are either left to settle their differences by themselves, or be at the mercy of foreign powers.

Some kind of an initiative needs to stem from within the Arab world to remedy the situation and prevent further deterioration.

This is in the interest not only of the unfortunate Arab countries plagued by conflicts, and which are paying a heavy price, but also in the interest of all Arab countries.

Without effective intervention, conflicts and fragmentation will be spreading like a malignant disease.
