Like a father to the nation

At a time when many Jordanians seem worried about the regional turmoil and concerned about the possibility of neighbouring flashpoints drifting into Jordan, His Majesty King Abdullah continues his efforts to put the people at ease on all national issues, including security, stability, and political and economic challenges, and to assure them that all is fine.

During a recent visit to the home of former prime minister Ahmad Lozi, in the presence of other key public figures and elderly statesmen, the Monarch tackled most of the issues confronting the country.

The first thing the King did was to assure the audience, and through them the people of Jordan, that the country has been able to turn challenges and dangers into opportunities throughout its history.

Turning crises into occasions for progress, stability and security has become a national trademark manifested ever since the founding of the Kingdom whose history, actually, is a long narrative of challenges that were bravely faced, strengthening it at every turn.

King Abdullah pointed out that what made Jordan successful in overcoming challenges and turning them into windows of opportunities is the firm, unshaken, respect for the rule of law, for human rights and human dignity, as well as its solid foundations, based on inclusive democracy and boosted by steady reforms.

In a region split along religious lines, Jordan is an example of inter-faith harmony.

The King said Jordan is a “unique model of coexistence between Muslims and Christians”, and pledged that the country will continue to perform its “historic role to protect Christians who always constituted an important part of our region’s history and civilisation”.

Credit for the country’s achievements and success in meeting challenges, the King said, goes to the wisdom of the Jordanian people, and to the armed forces and security agencies.

It is reassuring to see that the Monarch constantly takes the pulse of the country and spares no effort to reassure citizens that all is well.

The scope of violence in the region gives great reason to worry. The King does everything in his power to allay people’s fears, and for this the nation is grateful.
