Future in the hands of the young

Aug 22,2015 - Last updated at Aug 22,2015

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein presided over the the Global Forum on Youth, Peace and Security,” held Friday and Saturday at King’s Academy in Madaba, reminding the international community that the “future lies in the hands of the young” and every effort must be made to free their minds from evil exploitation.

Young people, said the Crown Prince, are the “future of mankind” and the world “is in race for their minds”.

Constituting no less than 70 per cent of the world’s population, they definitely hold the key for the future, which means that they not only have to be empowered, but also prepared to uphold and spread the messages of peace, security and development as early as possible in their life.

The youth, said the Crown Prince, could thus become “peace makers”, instead of war makers, and bearers of the banners of justice, moderation and peace.

Young people are the future soldiers of peace,  as well as, among others, the doctors, engineers and teachers of the coming years, stressed the Prince.

The forum, the first of its kind, intends to have the UN Security  Council, where Jordan still occupies a seat, pick up its message and recommendations and adopt the necessary resolution to give them true and effective expression.

The timing of the forum could not have been chosen better.

Young people are constantly targeted by radicals and extremists to further their evil agendas. Therefore, the international community needs to act effectively, and swiftly, to empower the youth, to prepare them, essentially through education, to stand up to preachers of violence and hatred.

Such an objective will indeed be within reach when the world acts upon the recommendations of the forum.
