A lawless world

Jul 07,2018 - Last updated at Jul 07,2018

Judging by the resumption of the Russian aerial bombing of the opposition forces in the south of Syria with a vengeance and the escalation of the Syrian offensives in the same area, the meeting between Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Wednesday did not go well.

Russia is now adding new conditions to the peace talks on Syria by insisting on lifting all international sanctions against Damascus before Moscow would do" business" on ending the Syrian conflict. Obviously, Moscow and Damascus are in a mood to drive a hard bargain with their "enemies" after scoring one military success against the opposition after the other.

What is even more important is US President Donald Trump's summit with his Russian counterpart Valdimir Putin in Helsinki on July 16. All indications suggest that President Putin wants to "finish off" the last battle in Syria before he meets with President Trump to avoid coming under pressure to stop the fighting in Syria.

President Trump does not have many options available to him even if he wanted to do something about ending the latest war scene in the south of Syria, which led to new waves of Syrian refugees and displaced persons numbering more than 300,000 and projected to multiply in the course of the next few days.

In retrospect, President Trump has put himself in a difficult position on Syria by not acting soon enough to stop the fighting in the Deraa province. Putin is now free to conclude the war in Syria on his own terms and will probably get away with it since neither the US nor the EU nations are putting up any resistance to this grand Russian design for Syria.

The international community is living in a lawless world, and the Syrian conflict is a prime example of how international norms and rules of justice can be trampled on for geopolitical gains.

TRUELY SO THAT THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY IS A LAWLESS COMMUNITY THAT LIVES, THRIVES AND PROSPER FROM THE CARNAGE OF THE WEEK AND POOR. ALTHOUGH JORDAN HAS DONE MORE THAN ITS FAIR SHARE OF SAVING LIFES, IT WILL BE UNWISE TO BLAME RUSSIA. INSTEAD, THIS BLAME SHOULD REST SQUARELY ON THE LAPS OF THOSE WHO HIRED, TRAINED, ARMED AND PAID BOTH THE GOOD AND BAD WAR LORDS. LET US GO BACK TO FOUR OR FIVE YEARS AGO WHEN ASSAD WAS ON THE ROPE, THE STORY AND ALLIANCES WERE DIFFERENT SO NO ONE IS FREE OF THE BLOOD STAINS. TODAY, JORDAN IS HAPPY WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE CLOSE END OF THE WAR BUT BLAME RUSSIA FOR BRINGING IT TO AN END. AS THE JERUSALEM POST WROTE, ISRAEL IS NOT HAPPY AT ALL FOR THIS DEVELOPMENT BECAUSE OF THE LOST OF GOLAN HEIGHTS SECTIONS WHERE THE REBELS AND THE ISLAMIC STATE HAD SAFE HEAVEN AND USED AS A BUFFER PROXY WORRIORS. ARE ALL THESE NOT MORE CRAZY THAN ANY FORM OF LAWLESSNESS THAT JORDAN TIMES IS WRITING ABOUT. LET US TELL THE TRUTH AND SAVE THE WORLD. IT IS ALSO WRONG AND UNTRUTHFUL TO SAY THAT RUSSIA WANTED TO FINISH THE BATTLE BEFORE PUTIN AND TRUMP MEETS BECAUSE RUSSIA AND USA RULES THE WORLD AND NO ONE CAN DECTATE TO EITHER WHICH IMPLIES THAT PRESIDENT TRUMP COULD HAVE STOPPED THE ADVANCE OF ASSAD TROOPS AND ALLIES IF THEY HAD SEEN IT AS A MATTER OF NATIONAL INTEREST. THE FUNNY THING ABOUT THIS DEVELOPMENT IS THAT EVERY PERSON IS SPEAKING OUT ABOUT THIS WHEN THE PALESTINIAN SITUATION REMAINS THE SAME FOR OVER 50 YEARS SO WHERE IS THE JUSTICE WHEN HYPOCRICY RULES THE WORLD? EVERY ONE SAW WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN SYRIA FROM THE BEGINING TO THE END SO THE ACT OF SELECTIVE KILLINGS ARE SACTIONED BY ALL PARTIES FROM THE CENTER TO ALL THE TANGENCIAL LOCUS.
