Proof of trust, professionalism

Nov 17,2015 - Last updated at Nov 17,2015

The correct identification of terrorist groups operating on Syrian soil has been a bone of contention and a vexing issue facing the coalition of powers waging war against terrorists in Syria.

It has also been a cause of friction between Washington and its allies, on the one hand, and Moscow and its supporters, on the other.

As such, the decision to compile a list of terrorist groups is the logical thing to do, if long overdue, and the selection of Jordan to coordinate efforts in this direction is clear proof of the Kingdom’s standing among world countries.

It “illustrates the international community’s recognition of Jordan’s capabilities and the efficiency of its military and security apparatuses”, said Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Mohammad Momani.

The choice of Jordan was made by the participants in the Vienna talks on Syria, and it is, again, testimony to the Kingdom’s strong ties with the rest of the world and recognition of its clear vision with regard to the war on terrorism, said the minister.

It is an article of faith in the country’s objectivity, independence, integrity and professionalism of its military and intelligence agencies.

The groups deemed as terrorist will be added to the UN list of such entities.

Once they are identified, countries fighting terrorism in Syria, and elsewhere, can target them, making the war on terrorists legitimate and more efficient.

The threat of terrorist attacks is clearly no longer limited to certain geographical areas or targets. The world at large is vulnerable, as the Paris attacks, as well as the attacks in other parts of the world showed, and as such, there must be determined international coordination and action to combat this scourge unbefitting humanity.
