The ministry said that a total of 130 applications were received by its Industrial Designs and Models Department in 2023, comprising 100 local and 30 foreign applications, reflecting a 6 per cent rise from the previous year. Also, 66 registration certificates for industrial designs or models were issued.

Renewals of trademarks and patents totalled 6568 and 613, respectively, the ministry said, adding that it also dealt with 2,000 transactions related to trademark ownership transfer/merger and 1,410 transactions for legal modifications on trademarks by the end of 2023.

As for digitalisation, the ministry reported receiving 28,885 e-transactions in 2023, marking a rise of 86 per cent compared with 2022.

In line with its strategic objectives, the ministry concluded the first phase of the project "Providing Intellectual Property Data for Search and Access," aimed at facilitating access to intellectual property data related to the pharmaceutical industry.
