AMMAN — The government is “serious” about improving the media at the official and national levels in cooperation with all concerned parties, Government Spokesperson and Minister of State for Media Affairs Jumana Ghunaimat said on Thursday.
In line with its endeavour to improve state media, Ghunaimat said that the government has completed about 70 per cent of a new media system at the Prime Ministry tasked with formulating and disseminating official news and messages, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The minister’s remarks were made during a meeting with the Senate Media and National Guidance Committee, chaired by Senate President Faisal Fayez.
During the meeting, Ghunaimat presented a briefing about the government's measures intended to institutionalise the performance of different ministries and public bodies as per the administration reform under implementation.
The minister also unveiled the government's intention to restructure the ministries’ and public institutions' media units to improve their performance, according to Petra.
Ghunaimat also said that media literacy subjects will be taught at schools for the seventh, eights and tenth grades as part of a wider media literacy strategy that will be implemented.
"In light of the current challenges, we need a strong official media to deliver the country’s messages, concerns and achievements," Fayez said.
