47 COVID deaths, 1,910 virus cases recorded Wednesday

AMMAN — A total of 47 COVID-19 deaths and 1,910 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Wednesday, increasing the caseload to 708,265, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 8,754 according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 10.18 per cent, compared with 9.63 per cent reported on Tuesday.

A total of 18,755 virus tests were also conducted on Wednesday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 6,668,395, according to the statement.

The statement added that 2,963 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Wednesday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 678,175.

The statement added that there are currently 21,336 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 154 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Wednesday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 1,528, the statement said, adding that 213 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 25 per cent, ICU beds reached 51 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 32 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 31 per cent, 49 per cent for ICUs and 25 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 17 per cent, 24 per cent for ICUs and 17 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 672 infections in Amman, 431 in Irbid, including 55 in Ramtha District, 93 in Balqa, 193 in Zarqa, 28 in Madaba, 63 in Aqaba, 157 in Mafraq, 47 in Jerash, 62 in Ajloun, 79 in Karak, 59 in Tafileh and 26 in Maan, including nine cases in Petra District.
