AMMAN — Queen Alia International Airport on Tuesday welcomed the first three aircraft carrying Jordanian students studying abroad and citizens stranded in coronavirus-hit countries.

Director of Airport Security and Protection Brig. Gen. Khaled Shanteer said that two aircraft flying from Cairo brought 158 and 159 passengers, while the third carried 260 people from Istanbul, noting that all arriving citizens are being evacuated to designated quarantine sites.

He added that all arrivals are undergoing preliminary tests before entering the Kingdom, and anyone who shows symptoms of COVID-19 is immediately transferred to hospital. No infections among the arrivals have been reported so far.

It is expected that the number of arrivals to the Kingdom up through Friday will reach 3,200, he said, noting that two aircraft will arrive on Wednesday, in addition to eight on Thursday and two on Friday, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Specialised medical teams are receiving the passengers upon their arrival to the airport and conducting the preliminary tests, he said.

After the passengers and their luggage are disinfected, they complete the entry procedures in a wing equipped for that purpose.

He highlighted that the arrivals on Tuesday observed precautionary distancing measures while awaiting inspection, and were assigned to the buses designated for transporting them to quarantine sites prepared in advance.

The Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, in cooperation with security apparatuses, assured the families of returning students and citizens of the “best and high-level” services at quarantine sites, Petra reported earlier in the day.
