8,350 job seekers employed through Labour Ministry initiative

AMMAN — Around 8,350 job seekers, 35 per cent of whom are women, have been employed as part of a Labour Ministry initiative to secure employment for 22,000 Jordanians, Labour Minister Nidal Katamine said Thursday at a ministry meeting.
The minister called for intensifying efforts to employ 60,000 job seekers as part of employment initiatives the ministry announced at the beginning of this year.
Moreover, he said the initiatives aim to employ people with disabilities and job seekers registered at the national system for employment, as well as establish crèches at public institutions for the children of women employees.

The unemployment rate in 2014 stood at 11.9 per cent, going down by 0.7 per cent compared with 2013, when it was 12.6 per cent, Labour Minister Nidal Katamine said Saturday.
A campaign was launched on Sunday to ensure that private enterprises abide by Article 72 of the Labour Law, which obligates institutions employing 20 women or more with children under the age of four to provide crèches for them.
