9 virus-related deaths, 1,824 COVID cases recorded Monday

AMMAN — Nine COVID-19 deaths and 1,824 coronavirus cases, including 1,823 local infections, were recorded in the Kingdom on Monday, increasing the caseload to 17,464 and the death toll to 110, the government announced.

The local cases comprised 1,188 infections in Amman, 125 in Zarqa, 119 in Ajloun, 89 in Irbid, including 11 in Ramtha district. The local cases also included 70 cases in Jerash, 65 in Madaba, 65 in Balqa, 53 in Karak, 21 in Aqaba, 11 in Mafraq, 11 in Tafileh, in addition to six cases in Maan, among which a case in Petra district.

The case from abroad comprised a truck driver who tested positive at the Omari border crossing.

Meanwhile, 52 recoveries were registered on Monday, including 13 from Prince Hamzah Hospital, 35 from the Dead Sea isolation sites and four from accredited private hospitals.

A total of 20,034 virus tests were also conducted on Monday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered to 1,311,436.

Amid the growing number of local infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by defence orders, as well as to adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks, maintaining physical distancing and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.

The ministry also highlighted the “Aman” (Safety) application for smartphones, which alerts users if they come into contact with a COVID-19 positive person, as well as “Sahtak” (your health) application, which provides users with the latest information and news related to COVID-19, in addition to guidelines and warnings pertaining to the Kingdom’s epidemiological situation.
