AND personnel arrest 12 in drug-related cases over weekend

AMMAN — Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel apprehended 12 suspected drug dealers in a total of nine drug-related cases over the past two days, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) spokesperson announced on Sunday.

Two of the nine cases occurred in Irbid Governorate. The first involved the arrest of a drug dealer, who officers found in possession of seven palm-sized sheets of hashish and 2,000 narcotic pills. 

In the second, AND personnel raided an apartment that an individual had allegedly been using to sell and store drugs. Officers arrested the suspected dealer, who was accompanied by a group of associates, and seized two weapons, one palm-sized sheet of hashish, 1,200 narcotic pills and 0.5 kilogrammes of an unspecified crystalline narcotic.

In Ramtha District, a suspected drug dealer was arrested after agents received information indicating his possession of crystal meth. AND agents raided the home of the suspect and arrested him subsequent to finding four kilogrammes of crystal meth in his possession.

At the Jaber border crossing, officers stopped and searched a cargo vehicle attempting to cross the border, where they discovered one kilogramme of crystal meth. The suspect in the case was arrested following the search.

Security personnel arrested four individuals in two separate cases in Zarqa. In the first case, officers raided an apartment that had been used to sell drugs. In the raid, three people were arrested after officers found them in possession of eight palm-sized sheets of hashish and an unspecified quantity of narcotic pills. 

In the second case, an individual was arrested in possession of eight palm-sized sheets of hashish and 3,000 narcotic pills.

In Amman, AND agents stopped and searched the vehicle of a suspected drug dealer. During the search, officers detected and seized 13 palm-sized sheets of hashish and 2,500 narcotic pills. 

In Mafraq, security agents seized 21 palm-sized sheets of hashish and 4,000 narcotics pills from a suspected drug dealer, who was later taken into custody. Officers also arrested two suspected drug dealers after finding them in possession of two palm-sized sheets of hashish and 1,000 narcotic pills.

All cases and suspects were referred to the prosecutor general of the State Security Court (SSC), according to the spokesperson.
