AMMAN — Aqaba port in 2021 enjoyed increased revenues of JD66 million, up by 4 per cent compared with 2020. Passenger traffic rose to 250,000 travellers, marking an increase of 17 per cent, Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management (ACPOM) announced on Saturday.

In a statement cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, ACPOM Director General Khaled Maaitah said that the increase in the handling volume is a sign of Aqaba port' recovery after imposing restrictions related to the pandemic.

A total of 15 million tonnes of various supplies, livestock and vehicles were handled at the port in 2021, he said. Maaitah also noted that a Djibouti ship carrying 1,320 heads of camels has arrived in Aqaba, where the camels were transported to Maan for breeding. This marks the first 2022 investment in Jordan’s Golden Triangle.
