AMMAN — The Eastern Military Zone, following information from the military security and anti-narcotics departments, on Tuesday foiled an attempt to smuggle large quantities of narcotics from Syria into the Kingdom, according to a source at the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF).

The source said that that border guards applied the rules of engagement, leaving some traffickers injured and forcing others to retreat to the Syrian territory, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During a search of the area, security personnel seized large quantities of narcotics, a Kalashnikov rifle and large amounts of live ammunition, the source added. The military official also stressed that the JAF would firmly deal with any infiltration or smuggling attempt.
