Cabinet approves amendments to Anti-Human Trafficking Law

AMMAN — The Cabinet's legal committee has approved amendments to the 2019 Anti-Human Trafficking Law and referred it to Parliament to be endorsed, Justice Minister Bassam Talhouni said.

The draft law aims to implement harsher punishments for those who charged with crimes related to human trafficking to ensure justice and deter these offences.

Speaking during the Second Government Forum against Trafficking in Persons in the Middle East held in the UAE, the minister said that the bill also provides victims of these crimes with protection and the necessary assistance. In addition, the draft law also establishes a fund at the Justice Ministry to provide help and care to those affected by human trafficking.

He also highlighted the 2019-2022 anti-human trafficking national strategy that focuses on creating a judiciary specialised in human trafficking cases and providing more protection to the victims, as well as conducting specialised studies in this arena, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
