Cabinet approves bylaw for issuing Jordanian banknotes for 2022

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Sunday endorsed a bylaw for issuing Jordanian banknotes for 2022. 

The decision, made during a Cabinet session chaired by Prime Minister Bisher Al Khasawneh, which comes almost 20 years after the 4th issue of Jordanian banknotes, aims to align with international best practices and release the 5th issue of Jordanian banknotes, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The bylaw also seeks to keep pace with global technical developments in the cash printing field, integrate the latest security features in printing banknotes, improve circulated banknote quality, extend their lifetime and protect against counterfeiting.

Meanwhile, the Council of Ministers approved an amended Jordanian currency issuance bylaw for 2022, in light of plans to launch the 5th issue of Jordanian banknotes, which requires new regulations in force in the same year of issuance, especially since the bylaw is limited to banknotes and excludes coins.

Also, the Cabinet approved an amended traffic points bylaw for 2022, aimed to cover traffic violations that are constantly repeated and constitute a high rate of dangerous accidents.

The Council of Ministers also decided to extend a previous decision reducing the tax on vegetable oil to zero per cent instead of 4 per cent until the end of November, with the aim of alleviating burdens on citizens in light of global price hikes of this commodity. 

Additionally, the Cabinet decided to appoint Hussein Abdallat as Secretary General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates for Administrative and Financial Affairs after he obtained the highest score among all applicants competing for this leadership position.
