AMMAN — The Civil Defence Department (CDD) has launched an initiative titled “Safe Winter” with the aim of strengthening  preparedness among all segments of the Jordanian society.

The initiative, carried out by the CDD in east Irbid, on Thursday, was aimed at enhancing winter preparation, according to the department’s Media and Protection Awareness Administration on Sunday.

The launch was held at King Abdullah II Park in Irbid and attended by specialised paramedics and firefighters, the media wing said.

“The event included defining preventive measures of protection, educating all age groups in our society and improving their first aid skills, showing them how to deal with frostbites, burns, suffocation and gas leak,” read a statement from the Media and Protection Awareness Administration.

The initiative continued on to Friday, and went over preventive measures for emergencies dealing with diabetic or hypertensive patients, the statement added.

A Jordan University of Science and Technology-based initiative will be held on Monday and Tuesday, with the same “Safe Winter” theme.

“We will be spreading awareness across the Kingdom, through social media, our website and holding events in different areas,” the statement said.
