AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration Tawfiq Kreishan on Saturday announced a JD3 million award for the winning municipality in a nationwide cleanup campaign under the slogan: "With Our Hands".

The award received His Majesty King Abdullah's interest at the 2019 Municipalities Conference, which was temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Speaking during the launch ceremony in Husban Forest in the New Naour Municipality, Kreishan said that the cleanliness award will be handed out based on "precise" criteria to recognise the municipalities' role in providing a "healthy and sound" environment for citizens, and protecting eco-resources and parks.

The minister said that the award will commence in early October. He noted that the award reflects the King's vision and the government's continuous efforts to keep the country clean.

The Local Administration Ministry will launch other initiatives in the near future in cooperation with public institutions, with the aim of enhancing municipalities' role, the minister said.

The ministry will also carry out joint projects with the private sector and universities in the investment, development, scientific, tourism, cultural, agricultural and service fields, Kreishan pointed out.
