AMMAN — A conference titled "The Future of Digital Currency, Digital Transformation and the Repercussions of Inflation on the Global Economy" organised by "The World Now for Management Consulting" opened on Wednesday.

Secretary-General of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Samira Zou’bi said that the two-day conference focuses on the future of cryptocurrencies, digital transformation and the implications of inflation on the global economy amidst rapid technological progress and swift economic transformations.

Zou’bi elaborated on how digital currencies and decentralised financial technology are significant innovations with the potential to dramatically reshape the global financial system in the foreseeable future, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

She noted that digital currencies — secure, encrypted forms of money operating on blockchain technology — allow for safe and immediate transfers and transactions, adding that their inherent transparency, security and efficacy afford unprecedented opportunities within the global financial system.

The secretary general noted that the ministry is currently implementing the national strategy for digital transformation for the years 2021-2025.

This strategy serves as Jordan's digital transformation blueprint, and outlines prerequisite strategic modifications and provisions needed to align with global advancements in digital transformation, enhance governmental service delivery and improve government efficiency.

Husam Sakran, CEO of the conference's organising body, highlighted the rapid emergence of the digital economy.

He also characterised the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing global shocks as catalysts in the digital technology shift.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee Muhammad Zghoul underscored the conference's relevance amidst the rapid progress in digital transformation, IT and cryptocurrency.

Zaghoul noted that external factors, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war, have only amplified the urgency of this digital shift.

He also pointed out that the conference offers an opportunity for investors to convene and discuss potential partnerships and investment opportunities in Jordan.

The conference attendees will discuss a variety of topics, such as the future of digital currencies, the digital transformation, payment methods, e-wallets, inflation and its impact on global economies, the future of interest rates, the legal and legislative aspects of digital transformation.
