AMMAN — Water Minister Mohammad Najjar on Sunday announced that ministry holds weekly meetings to start implementing the National Water Carrier Project, which will provide about 300 million cubic metres of water annually, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During a meeting with the Parliamentary Agriculture and Water Committee, headed by MP Mohammad Alaqma, Najjar said that part of the cost of the project will be funded through grants.

He added that discussions remain ongoing with the Association of Banks to finance the project, in addition to offering shares to similar companies such as the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company.

The minister explained that the project, estimated at a cost of about JD2 billion, will help shut down obsolete, deep wells that have been drained for many years, which will positively affect the agricultural sector in general.
