AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration Tawfiq Krishan on Wednesday attended a ceremony to announce the winners of the first edition of the Distinguished Municipality Award.

During the event, attended by Marwan Jumaa, vice president of the Board of Trustees of the King Abdullah II Centre for Excellence (KACE), excellence awards, including the Distinguished Municipality Award, the Distinguished Executive Director Award and the Distinguished Municipal Employee Award, were handed to the winner individuals and municipalities.

Krishan highlighted His Majesty King Abdullah's keenness on supporting the Kingdom's municipalities, noting that the KACE's award was launched to highlight the importance of municipalities' role in achieving sustainable local development.

Jumaa stressed the importance of the municipalities in improving all aspects of life, highlighting the major challenges facing their work.

He referred to improving performance through analysing the outcomes of the evaluation process of the first session, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.  

The participation of the Kingdom's 100 municipalities was mandatory, said Ibrahim Rawabdeh, executive director of the centre, noting that the participation rate reached 63 per cent.
