AMMAN – More than 6,000 people attended the first concert of international Spanish artist Enrique Iglesias held in the capital on Thursday, according to the organisers.

Juman Obeidat, senior account executive at iJordan’s public relations department, said the concert, held by iJordan and Play 99.6 radio station at Amman Exhibition Park, started at 9:30pm, with a “massive crowd” at the venue.

“When Enrique came to the stage, he had direct contact with the audience; people were excited and so was he. He was friendly and humble,” the organiser said.

“We organised this concert to show the world that Jordan is a safe destination for tourists and performers. Jordan is the safest country in the region that is able to host such events,” she told The Jordan Times.

The team has been preparing for the event since the beginning of the year, Obeidat said, adding that the venue’s set up took around two to three weeks.

“It was not an easy job; however, the suppliers and sponsors showed nothing but enthusiasm and were glad to help,” she added .

She said the concert’s organising team, the Ministry of Tourism and the Jordan Tourism Board cooperated to organise the event to support tourism and promote the Kingdom as a main destination for foreigners.

From Play 99.6 radio station, Kholoud Sarsak said the concert puts "Jordan on the map of international events”.

“We want to encourage concerts and musical events in Jordan. We wanted to set a standard for events in the country to take next concerts to the next level,” she told The Jordan Times.

Sarsak said there were no problems witnessed before, during, or after the concert, which concluded at around 11:30pm.

“Security personnel made sure people stayed organised. The artist gave the audience a good vibe; we brought joy and happiness to the people. We hope this concert paves the way for other international events to make Jordan a destination,” she added.
