AMMAN — As the Chinese people “are at the dawn of victory” in the battle against the novel coronavirus pandemic, Beijing's Ambassador to Amman Pan Weifang has voiced his country’s support to the Kingdom to combat COVID-19.

In a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, on Sunday, the envoy noted that China will assist the Kingdom in purchasing health commodities of all types and will donate testing kits, while Chinese companies will step forward with contributions as well.

Under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, Jordan voiced its sympathy and support to the Chinese people during their battle against COVID-19, he said, noting that during the “critical moments” of the battle in Wuhan, King Abdullah sent a letter voicing Jordan and Jordanians’ moral support and providing financial assistance, Petra reported.

Weifang highlighted Jordan’s “critical preventive measures” in light of the virus’ spread, voicing China’s readiness to share its experience in facing the disease and ways of treatment with the Kingdom to help preserve stability and control the pandemic.

The origin of the virus, he said, is a scientific matter, and the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the international community “agree that the virus should not be tied to a country or area or race”, according to Petra.

The ambassador affirmed China’s commitment to international cooperation to continue combatting the disease “in full openness and transparency”, noting that the country immediately contacted the WHO and the concerned countries to provide information on the pandemic and share the genetic sequence of the virus, inviting many experts from various countries to work together to counter COVID-19.

The Asian nation is also currently working on a model for international protection against pandemics utilising practical measures, according to Weifang.

Weifang said that the work continuation rate in China has reached more than 95 per cent, noting that the Chinese economy is “once again revitalised” after the temporary halt.
