AMMAN — The seventh exhibition to market self-employed women's products kicked off on Tuesday at Gallery Ras Al Ain.

Co-organised by the Labour Ministry and the Greater Amman Municipality, the fair is aimed at marketing products by women who received training through the ministry's self-employment project, and encouraging women to work from home, according to a ministry statement.

The event will continue for three days, and is held with the participation of more than 25 charity associations affiliated with the Social Development Ministry, the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development and the General Federation of Jordanian Women.

Participants will be showcasing their handmade products, such as popular dishes, desserts, accessories and embroideries, in addition to cosmetics, agricultural products and garments.

The director of the women labour directorate at the Labour Ministry, Laila Shobaki, said the ministry is interested in women's employment and providing jobs for them at institutions or by helping them establish their own projects.

The exhibition is aimed at encouraging women to work from home so as to increase their participation in the labour market, Shobaki said, adding that the idea of the fair expanded to include women who did not take part in the ministry's self-employment project.

Deputising for Labour Minister Nidal Katamine, Rafat Nawaiseh, the ministry's deputy secretary general for employment and training affairs, inaugurated the fair.
