FM receives 5th Jordanian evacuation plane from Sudan

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Tuesday received the arrival of the fifth Royal Jordanian Air Force plane carrying individuals evacuated from Sudan at Marka Military Airport, according to a ministry statement.  

The plane was dispatched to Port Sudan New International Airport in implementation of the Royal directive to evacuate Jordanian citizens from Sudan.

The plane carried 90 Jordanian citizens, as well as citizens of other countries including Palestine, Iraq, Syria and Eritrea.

Following the landing, Safadi said: "His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives were to dedicate all possible resources to evacuate Jordanians and citizens of other countries." He further emphasised that "the Jordanian embassy in Sudan will remain operational until the last Jordanian is evacuated."

Another evacuation plane was scheduled to arrive later the day carrying Jordanian citizens and other nationals as part of the Kingdom’s ongoing evacuation efforts, Safadi said.

On Monday, Jordan evacuated 343 Jordanian citizens and non-Jordanians using four planes which landed at Marka Military Airport. countries such as the Netherlands and Germany also used Jordan as a hub for their own evacuation operations.

Twenty Jordanian citizens were evacuated on a German aircraft, which landed in the Kingdom on Monday morning.

The sixth plane sent to evacuate Jordanian citizens from Sudan was expected to arrive on Tuesday night, carrying 67 Jordanians and citizens of Egypt, Iraq, Syria, the United States, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Ethiopia.
