AMMAN — Activity in the food sector during the first half of the holy month of Ramadan decreased by 25 per cent compared to the 2019 Ramadan season, Head of the General Association for Foodstuffs Merchants of Jordan (GAFJO) Khalil Hajj Tawfiq said on Friday.

Hajj Tawfiq attributed this decrease to the current exceptional circumstance in Jordan caused by COVID-19 and the accompanying measures including partial and comprehensive curfews, social distancing, the delay in reopening restaurants and the continued closure of hotels.

Food sales in the past few days have also decreased by nearly 30 per cent compared to the beginning of Ramadan, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported him as saying.
