AMMAN — Head of the General Association for Foodstuffs Merchants of Jordan (GAFJO) Khalil Haj Tawfiq on Saturday called for setting up a mechanism for the supply chain of various foods and basic goods before Tuesday.

The markets include retail stores, major commercial centres, malls, supermarkets and civil and military consumer corporations, Haj Tawfiq said.

Haj Tawfiq also called for expediting the completion of the necessary mechanism, to enable commercial and industrial companies and importers of foodstuffs to prepare for supplying the markets with needed items and delivering them to the governorates, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.

He added that the GAFJO's members are ready to supply the local market and consumer corporations, whether civil or military, with goods on Tuesday morning.

He said that foods and basic supplies will be distributed to the governorates in accordance with the official instructions and mechanisms.

He stressed the need for hours devoted to supplying goods to markets, and the need for comfortable and sufficient hours for citizens to purchase their needs.

He pointed out that there was sufficient stock of basic foodstuffs at companies, importers and traders despite the great demand prior to the curfew, especially on Friday.

Haj Tawfiq noted the stability of prices, pointing out that dairy, fresh poultry and bread were the most popular materials with citizens over the past days.

He called on citizens not to hoard foodstuffs and panic buy items since there are abundant quantities to meet the needs of the Kingdom.
