Hneifat, US Department of Agriculture official discuss means to boost cooperation

AMMAN — Agriculture Minister Khalid Hneifat on Wednesday met with Foreign Service Officer of the US Department of Agriculture Elizabeth Mello, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the countries in agricultural fields.
Hneifat highlighted the US role in supporting efforts to develop Jordan’s agricultural sector, as well as the need to increase cooperation in projects that support food security for the Kingdom and the region, especially in light of regional geopolitical changes, the effects of hosting refugees on the Kingdom, in addition to climate changes.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Agriculture values partnership with its US counterpart, expressing keenness to bolster cooperation, most notably in implementing Jordan’s national plan for sustainable agriculture.
He called for renewing the US wheat grant provided to Jordan and facilitating procedures for import and export to and from the US.
The two sides reviewed all joint projects and ways to develop them to serve the agricultural sector, as a number of projects financed by the US wheat grant will be inaugurated successively during the coming period, according to Petra.
