Interpol office handled 19 cases in April — PSD

AMMAN — Jordan’s Interpol office in Amman in April dealt with 19 cases that resulted in receiving two "wanted Jordanians" from the Emirati authorities, the Public Security Department’s (PSD) media centre announced on Thursday.

The first suspect is wanted for writing a bad cheque of JD210,000, and the second is suspected in a fraud and embezzlement case of JD45,000, according to a PSD statement, which added they were referred to relevant authorities.

The Interpol Amman office also turned over an Egyptian citizen wanted by the authorities in Cairo.

The office also referred 14 suspects who are wanted internationally to the concerned authorities after they were arrested in Jordan.

Others detained in the Kingdom in connection with cases being handled by the Interpol office included 11 Jordanians, two Iraqis wanted by their country's authorities and an Egyptian who was wanted by Omani authorities for writing a bad cheque, added the PSD.

One Iraqi is wanted for allegedly causing deliberate damage to state assets worth 159 million Iraqi dinars (around $143,714), while the other is wanted for abuse of public office and illicit seizure of state assets.

The 14 suspects were referred to Jordanian judicial authorities to look into the extradition requests by the countries that had issued international warrants against them.

The Interpol Amman office urged citizens wishing to travel to check whether they are wanted internationally through sending a mobile SMS including the name and national number to 94444, or through visiting the office premises, the PSD said.
