JAF foils infiltration attempt from Syria

AMMAN — A source from the Jordan Armed Forces–Arab Army (JAF) in a statement issued on Sunday announced that personnel stationed in the northern military region foiled the attempt of an individual to infiltrate into Jordan from Syria.

The source said that border guards applied the rules of engagement, arrested the infiltrator and referred him to the relevant authorities.

The JAF will continue utilising full force to protect the borders and prevent any infiltration or trafficking attempts or threats to Jordan's national security.

Jordan has altered its rules of engagement at the borders with Syria, and has now prevented all border crossings since the Rukban terrorist attack on March 15, 2017, which resulted in the death of six Jordanian soldiers when a suicide bomber drove a car bomb into a border point.

The army on July 24 announced that a drone carrying narcotics coming from Syria was shot down by military personnel near the border.

On June 28, the JAF announced that another drone carrying drugs coming from Syria was shot down, and was the third drone to be handled in June alone.

The JAF has been at war with drug dealers, traffickers and infiltrators from Syria since the outbreak of the crisis in Syria in 2011, especially since the JAF controls the 378-kilometre long border with Syria.
