AMMAN — Japan will extend a new assistance package to the Kingdom amounting to some $15.9 million, it announced on Thursday.

The new aid package was allocated from Japan’s supplementary budget for 2018 to assist Jordan in light of challenges it is facing due to regional instability and hosting a large number of refugees, according to a statement from Japan’s embassy in Amman.

The assistance package will be provided through grants to support international organisations operating in the Kingdom. The grants aim to support organisations in implementing projects that provide humanitarian assistance for Syrian refugees and support for host communities affected by the influx of refugees.

The aid will also support projects seeking to improve the economic situation of the country, the statement added.

The Japanese government affirmed its commitment to providing “firm support” to Jordan, describing it as “the cornerstone of stability” in the Middle East.
