Japanese government grants JMAP medical equipment to bolster healthcare in Hiteen refugee camp

AMMAN — The Japanese government on Monday provided a grant, which included medical equipment, to the Jordan Medical Aid for Palestinians (JMAP). 

The grant, aimed at improving the quality of medical services at the medical centre in the Hiteen Palestinian refugee camp, included a new X-ray machine, an electroencephalogram machine and an electromyogram machine, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The new medical equipment will support the establishment of a neurology department, providing local medical services and eliminating the need to refer patients outside the camp.

Japanese Ambassador to Jordan Okuyama Jiro said that these medical facilities will be utilised to save lives, alleviate suffering and improve the health care services of the camp. 

The diplomat also highlighted the dire situation in Gaza and called on all parties to adhere to international law, including international humanitarian law and emphasised the necessity of taking all possible measures to prevent harm to civilians during military operations.

Expressing gratitude for Japanese government, President of the Board of Trustees of JMAP Michael Al Sayegh stressed the need for new medical equipment. 

Since 1993, Japan has contributed more than US$10 million to 158 projects for non-governmental organisations, schools, hospitals and municipalities in Jordan as part of Japan's Grassroots Human Security Projects programme.
