AMMAN — Jordan on Tuesday expressed disappointment at the UN Security Council’s failure to pass a draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, following the United States’ veto of a resolution drafted by Algeria on behalf of the Arab Group.

Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Sufian Qudah decried in a statement the Security Council's “repeated failure” to halt the war on Gaza for the third time, stressing that the failure reflects the international community's struggle to contain the humanitarian crisis caused by the Israeli ongoing war against Gaza.

Qudah stressed the urgent need for the Security Council and the wider international community to fulfil their responsibilities and put an end  to the war on Gaza, which has claimed the lives of over 29,000 innocent civilians, mostly women and children.

He also stressed the importance of applying international law “impartially and without discrimination.
