AMMAN — The UK tourist market is among the most important for the Kingdom, as British tourists to Jordan have recently increased by 20 per cent, Tourism Minister Majd Shweikeh has said.

During her participation in the World Travel Market Exhibition held in London on Tuesday and Wednesday, Shweikeh said that Jordan is a “distinguished tourist destination” with “unique and diverse tourist products”, according to a ministry statement issued on Saturday.

She also expressed the keenness of the ministry, the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) and tourist institutions to participate in the exhibition to learn about the latest growing tourist destinations, launch new tourism campaigns and follow up on trending international tourism destinations.

Shweikeh highlighted the importance of the exhibition, which is held annually in London in November, in determining targetted tourist markets for the following year and signing agreements.

The minister referred to procedures that contributed to increasing the tourism influx in the Kingdom, including the rise in the number of airlines flying to the Kingdom and the signing of agreements with low-cost airlines.

For his part, JTB Director General Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat said that Jordan’s participation in the exhibition is “very important to the Kingdom”, especially as the event is considered the largest international gathering in the tourism sector, with the participation of 150 countries.

Arabiyat said that the Jordanian pavilion witnessed a “remarkable turnout”.

More than 26 Jordanian tourism institutions, representing agencies, hotels and airlines, participated in the exhibition, according to the statement.
