Jordan, Kuwait set to boost cooperation

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah and Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah on Tuesday held talks that focused on cooperation between the two countries and the latest developments in the region.

During the discussions, held at the Dasman Palace in Kuwait City, the two leaders stressed the need to further enhance Jordanian-Kuwaiti relations in various fields and emphasised the importance of continuing coordination and consultation between the two countries on various regional issues, in order to serve joint interests and pan-Arab solidarity.

They also addressed regional developments and ways to reach political solutions to ongoing crises in the Middle East, so as to restore security and stability, according to a Royal Court statement.

His Majesty expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s support for Jordan, especially since the Gulf emirate has helped the Kingdom implement important projects in various vital sectors in the Kingdom. 

King Abdullah also referred to the assistance Kuwait extended to Jordan to help ease some of the burdens of the Syrian refugee crisis.

The King congratulated Sheikh Sabah on his country’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

In October last year, Kuwaiti leaders announced that they would increase investments in economic projects in Jordan, which stood at $12 billion in 2016. 

Prime Minister Hani Mulki, Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat, King Office Director Jafar Hassan, King Adviser and National Policies Council Rapporteur Abdullah Wreikat and Jordan’s Ambassador to Kuwait Mohammad Kayed attended the talks.

Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Sheikh Jaber Al Abdullah Al Jaber Al Sabah, Sheikh Faisal Al Saud Al Mohammad Al Sabah, National Guards Deputy Chief Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Sheikh Nasser Al Mohammad Al Ahmad Al Sabah, Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah, Acting Speaker of the National Assembly Issa Ahmad Al Kandari, Minister of Al Diwan Al Amiri Affairs Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al Ahmed Al Sabah and other Kuwaiti senior military officers and civil officials attended the discussions.

 

Sheikh Sabah held an iftar banquet in honour of the King and the accompanying delegates, in the presence of Kuwaiti high ranking officers and senior officials.
