AMMAN — Jordan on Monday observed World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2021, which falls on May 17.

This year’s theme was: “Accelerating digital transformation in challenging times”, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

On the occasion, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmad Hanandeh, in a statement, highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts towards accelerating digital transformation, notably developing a draft of Jordan's digital transformation strategy.

Jordan has launched an e-government service gateway app Sanad that offers speedy service delivery and spares service recipients in-person visits to government departments and public agencies, he added.

The ministry has digitised government payments by providing electronic channels to pay for government services, in addition to the automation of several services and the launching of digital government services, the statement added.

Hanandeh said that the ministry is considering the Electronic Transactions Law, noting that it has developed   a public key infrastructure (PKI) system that allows showing digital identity of users and using digital signatures for all e-transactions made by citizens, government institutions and business sector.
