AMMAN — The Jordan Strategy Forum (JSF) issued a report titled “Readiness for Frontier Technologies Index 2021”, which sheds light on the concept of technology and innovation.

Jordan ranked 64th out of the 158 countries on the overall index and 7th regionally, scoring 0.50 on a scale from zero to one, according to a JSF statement.

The JSF noted that the index comprises five main indicators of information and communications technology (ICT): Deployment, skills, research and development, industry activity and finance.

As for the sub-indicators of the index, the Kingdom scored 72/158 in ICT deployment, 77/158 in skills, 52/158 in research and development, 55/158 in industry activity and 41/158 in access to finance.

The JSF report notes that frontier technologies already represent a $350 billion market, which could grow to $3.2 trillion by 2025. This observation offers a great opportunity to catch up with this technological wave, said the statement.

The report reviews Jordan’s performance on the UN’s Readiness for Frontier Technologies Index 2021 and recommends ways in which the Kingdom can use the document to make progress in technology.

JSF said that the 2021 Technology and Innovation Report, which was issued by UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), is an effective tool for steering policies and strategies to adopt leading technologies.

The UNCTAD report includes the Readiness for Frontier Technologies Index, which covers 158 countries with the aim of measuring countries’ readiness and ability to equitably adopt leading technologies and adapt them for local contexts.
