Jordan supports UN resolution on Palestinian sovereignty over natural resources

AMMAN — Jordan voted on Thursday at the Second United Nations Committee at the draft resolution on Permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources. The resolution garnered 151 member states approvals, while six countries voted against and eleven countries abstained, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. According to the resolution, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) reiterate, “Permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources.” The General Assembly also called upon Israel to halt all actions, including those perpetrated by Israeli settlers, that harm the environment, including the dumping of all kinds of waste materials, in the occupied areas and ceasing its destruction of vital infrastructure. Jordan also voted for a resolution on oil slick on Lebanese shores and that Israel is responsible for that environmental issue against Lebanese shores. The draft was approved by 150 votes in favour, eight votes against while five countries abstained from voting.
