AMMAN — Jordanian exports to various trade partners and economic blocs grew in the first half of 2023, totalling approximately JD4.198 billion, compared with JD4.104 billion during the same period last year, the Department of Statistics (DoS) announced on Monday.

According to foreign trade data issued by DoS, countries in the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) topped the list of Jordan’s export recipients in the January-June period of 2023, accounting for 17.4 per cent, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The value of national exports to GAFTA countries increased during the first half of this year to JD1.460 billion, compared with JD1.244 billion in the same period of 2022, driven by an increase in Jordanian export volume to the Saudi market, which amounted to around JD452 million.

National exports under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) also increased 1.8 per cent during the first half of this year, reaching roughly JD1.011 billion, compared with JD993 million in the first six months of 2022. The DoS accredited this rise to increased Jordanian exports to the Canadian market, which accounted for JD45 million.

According to the data, national exports to EU countries grew 12.9 per cent during the first half of this year with a value of JD201 million, compared with JD178 million in the same period last year. The data attributed the increase to an uptick in Jordan’s exports to Spain, which comprised JD49 million.

National exports to non-Arab Asian countries valued JD1.104 billion during the first half of 2023, constituting a drop of 13.7 per cent when compared with the JD1.279 billion recorded in the same period of 2022. The decrease is a result of a decrease in Jordanian export volume to the Indian market, which amounted to JD745 million, the data indicated.
