AMMAN — With the aim of further improving the sector and promoting Jordanian premium extra virgin olive oil on international markets, a group of award-winning Jordanian olive oil producers will visit the Netherlands in the beginning of June to participate in the Amsterdam International Olive Oil Competition (AIOOC) and to host a Jordanian olive oil tasting event.

The AIOOC plays a vital role in advancing education and promoting the excellence of award-winning premium extra virgin olive oils from all over the world, according to a statement from the Jordan Olive Products Exporters Association.

In recent years, there has been a growing awareness and demand for high-quality, premium extra virgin olive oil in the Netherlands.

Amidst Jordan's water scarcity, the olive tree emerges as an oasis of sustainability. Its resilience to arid environments makes it an ideal crop, combating soil erosion and contributing to the fight against desertification. Olive trees cover half of Jordan's cultivated area, with olive cultivation accounting for 80 per cent of the country's tree population.
