AMMAN — Secretary-General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs Abdullah Kanaan on Wednesday condemned the daily incursions into Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif in Jerusalem, emphasising that the invasions are part of increasing criminal attacks and Israeli violations occurring in Jerusalem and occupied Palestine as a whole.
Stressing the need for international accountability, Kanaan said that the Israeli policy aims to impose full Israeli sovereignty and eliminate the freedom of worship in Jerusalem.
He further highlighted the presence of a racist legislation campaign in the Israeli Knesset, as well as the exploitation of international crises, and warned that these factors could lead the region towards “a religious war”. Kanaan also expressed concern about the Zionist Judaisation of Jerusalem, which is becoming more dangerous, especially since some Jewish holidays are coinciding with the days of holy month of Ramadan. He reaffirmed Jordan's commitment to its role as the historical Custodian of the Islamic and Christian holy sites Jerusalem.
