Kharabsheh highlights importance of developing Kingdom’s electric networks

AMMAN — Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh on Saturday stressed the importance of developing electric networks in the Kingdom and benefiting from international experiences in this field to enhance the contribution of local energy sources in generating electricity. 

The minister visited the Monitoring and Control Centre at the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

At the centre, Kharabsheh was briefed on the performance of the electrical system and electrical loads in the Kingdom.

He highlighted the necessity of the company to coordinate with the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) and electricity generating and distribution companies to ensure the sustainability of the electricity and to prepare to face any emergency malfunctions. 

Kharabsheh said that the world is witnessing a technological revolution in the field of energy, especially renewable energy, which must be taken advantage of and kept pace with to upgrade the Jordanian electrical system and enhance the exploitation of local energy in a way that improves performance and cuts operational costs.

The energy minister also focused on increasing the capacity of the Arab electrical network.

NEPCO Managing Director Amjad Rawashdeh said that the company has operational strategies and plans to meet the demand for electricity, which are implemented by its National Monitoring and Control Centre in cooperation with electrical companies operating in the Kingdom, to continue supplying all consumers in Jordan.

The company follows a number of procedures to sustain electric currents and avoid any breakdowns.
